Hey guys! It's been a long couple of days, but Laney is doing great! She struts around in her little Huey Lewis & the News style glasses and I have to keep my thumb on her just to keep her from running and jumping! She's still a little out of it, but it is so encouraging that she at least seems like herself and a normal, healthy little girl today :) Her energy level may have something to do with the box of NERDS I bought her... Yes, I bought my child candy!! (I think this is the first time ever I have actually purchased candy for my child, unless you count the times on vacation or our Philippines trip when I bought foreign goodies for the novelty...) I figure when you go under the knife you deserve a little treat ;)
The doctor said the surgery itself went really smoothly. I started to get a little nervous when it went a little long, but she successfully rotated the eyes, cut the muscles (detaching them completely), and reattached them. Laney was sweet as pie going into it, really funny after she drank the happy juice, and then completely ballistic for about 2 hours after the surgery. It was pretty rough for a while, since I could barely hold her body, let alone her appendages. She was fighting to rip out her IV's, tear off the splints on her arms (to keep her from scratching her eyes), etc. She even refused popsicles! She was screaming and straining so hard I worried she'd pop her stitches, but then she threw up a few times and was generally calm for the rest of the day. (Save whwen we tried to put her splints on for rest --we decided it was easier just to stay within reach of her at all times! -- or put in her eye drops...)
We had candlelit dinner of soup and then watched a movie together in our pretend rocket ship (the couch & loveseat scooted together). The Hestons were so sweet to bring by cookies and a balloon. She was too out of it to notice at the time, but she is enjoying them now ;)
The hardest thing now is keeping the little gal from running, jumping, or generally being a 2 year old! She's done great keeping her shades on, and the post-op visit went really smoothly. Her eyes are tracking together. As long as she doesn't exert herself or bump her head (both of which could pop the stitches), there shouldn't be any complications. Praise the Lord!
I will post pictures later this evening, hopefully ;) Sorry to those of you who have been missing pics lately ;)
